The inspiration for this artwork came from the resurgence of the ukulele and the idea that you could make your own instrument instead of buying the ‘new next best thing’ every time the market suggested it.
I remembered listening to woman playing a ukulele in the late eighties by the River Seine in Paris when the ukulele was considered then to be the new big thing.
The kooky ukey acoustic ukulele art piece was crafted to incorporate the ukulele into the circular duality of old versus new.
It seems to me that mankind would be better served to inscribe a more circular pattern into his thought process.
Instead of thinking linearly, with there being only a beginning and end, if we set about to create with the view of having a more circular pattern involved in our work, then when we send our creations out into the world we become more aware and responsible for its impact because it is still connected to us in that circular fashion.
