This instrumental artwork was made to say thank you to those people who look after the sick and keep an eye on the people they love.
When I decided to return to university as a senior student in the mid 2000s’, I had the good fortune to become friends with two young skateboarding, surfing boys in the class. They reminded me of all things good about the youth of today, young, talented, good natured, funny guys with the world at their feet.
The two boys became good friends with each other and surfed, partied and worked their way freely through the course. When Uni was finished they went there separate ways to find work with one ending up in Australia and the other in Auckland.
The young man who stayed in Auckland was out surfing Piha one day when he bumped his leg on a rock. Over a short period of time this little bump on the leg became cancerous and he ended up in hospital needing several operations and chemotherapy.
I got a call from his university buddy living in Australia to tell me the news and to say he was organizing for all of his friends to shave their hair off to coincide with his buddies up coming chemotherapy program as a way of telling him he was not alone in his time of need.
I was super impressed with the kindness, strength, bravery and compassion that those two young men had shown when faced with a life threatening situation and the fact both men took such a heavy weight on their young shoulders.
The Lionhearted strength shown by both these men helped me to believe that there is a change for the better coming to the way man treats himself and others on this planet, and the leaders of this change will be the youth of today, Along with a few old hippies to say I told you so.
