I had a cigar box that was again plastered with stickers and items I couldn’t remove, so I used some more of the foreign currency I had collected from my world travels to laminate onto the box to revive its appeal.
I wanted to make a left handed version of the currency guitars to represent the left handed people of the world. I noticed that for every 12 people who came in to look at my guitars one of them was left handed.
I am left handed and can remember times when I was at primary school being told I was not allowed to write with my left hand, in fact, I received many a detention from the school involved with my education for disobeying this command.
I went to learn guitar recently and told my instructor I was left handed, he suggested that it would be easier for me if I changed hands and became a right handed guitar player. I couldn’t help but wonder what Jimi Hendrix would have said if he were told that it would be better for all concerned if he played right handed all the time.
For some people what they are is not a choice but a fact, and to face prejudice for being different, whether it be colour, creed, nationality, or hand preference is an act of insanity from the perpetrator.
There is great joy in diversity, and the ability of man to become many things in his lifetime is to be commended. There are several colours in a rainbow, all of which are invaluable to its overall appeal.
Recycling and respecting all things considered waste by the ignorant can be mans way of restoring the balance and true symmetry of this planet. Being left handed at BigSmokeGuitars means being in the right.
