When I first decided to make this art exhibition a 50-piece collection, I talked to numerous people including luthiers. They all told me that a 50-piece collection was not only too many, but the logistics, materials and time required to make 50 artworks that could also function as musical instruments by someone who is an artist not a luthier was impossible.
I chose the number 50 because it has special significance in many areas of my life.
I also thought to myself, that by the time I had completed my 50 artworks I would have extended my boundaries as an artist and would indeed be very proficient at making musical instruments.
I can honestly say in the last three years there were many times I found myself agreeing with the opinions of those I consulted regarding the impossible nature of this assignment, but I continued to find something that helped fuel my mind into persevering with my quest, to bring to fruition my original intent.
The token imbedded in the headstock is of the Hungarian champion of democracy; Lajos Kossuth, and the token is from an old coin collection that I started over 30 years ago.
The token helped me to believe not only in the original ambition that I had set myself, but also in the belief that a conscious change in the human condition would also bring about a better environmental awareness
