CIGAR BOX GUITARS / CBGS

PUNCH STRUNG

This instrumental artwork was a Random, experimental creation I came up with when I put a collection of memories together that normally are not connected, but end up together.

The Punch cigar box colours triggered a memory to me of a Vintage, French Army uniform. The uniform reminded me of the work the French Army had done building the palace of Versailles, outside of Paris, France.

I bought a Seventeenth Century Key from a French man in Italy to add as a button and bridge for the Punch French Army  Cigarbox. I wondered how I got to France.

I remembered working in the summer of 1987 to get the money to travel to France, and one of the jobs was cleaning the water tanks in the Robert Jones building in Wellington. This memory reminded me that Sir Robert Jones liked boxing and cigars, so I found a Joe louis commemorative coin for the neck and a big bomber soapbar  pickup for the guitar.

The end result of this random collection of thoughts provided me with a beautiful and powerful instrumental artwork, that wouldn’t look out of place being played by a Captain in the French Army, or Sir Robert Jones in Wellington.

The beauty of the finished artwork, highlighted the limitless ability of the imagination to create artistic possibilities out of purely random connections.
